Once upon a time (okay, in 2019), we collaborated with Brisbane artist Michelle Grayson from Sprout Gallery to create a collection that made hearts flutter faster than your nan’s fine china on wobbly shelves. We called it Forever in Blue, and it became one of our all-time favourite collections.
So naturally, when the idea for our Something Blue collection popped into our heads, we knew exactly who to call.
Michelle, who works almost exclusively in blue and white, finds inspiration in everything from antique Chinese porcelain to Delftware from the 17th century. Her work has this magical way of feeling both timeless and fresh – a bit like summer holidays that last forever, and just as perfect for our summer prints now as it did back in 2019.
Here's what our founder Dee has said about working on this collection with Michelle…
I wanted this collection to be oh so special. I know how much everyone loved the beautiful blue and white collection we did with Michelle back in 2019 and I knew it was going to be hard to top that!
I still have the stunning fifties frock we did back then and I got it out from the archives as a starting point. I kept looking at it and thinking - what can I do that’s going to be just as stunning, but completely different?
There were many catch ups and coffees with Michelle, who truly is an absolute delight to work with.
I really love getting to work with other creatives and get their perspective and ideas and really get our creative juices flowing.
Michelle showed me a skirt she had made where she added a bright green into the background of her blue and white prints and I loved it. It’s a bit different to what she usually does and I know our Maiocchi Mavens love green.
We have offered a blue background version as well and have added white lace and cotton ric-rac trims, which makes these pieces pop and look so summery fresh!
I also wanted to use the blue and white paintings Michelle is known for in a print, and we came up with the idea of framing up her artworks like a patchwork quilt of tiny masterpieces.
Michelle painted me some gorgeous little border designs and a stunning floral border, which we used to trim our Alison Shirt Dress. The result is timeless and just stunning.
This collection has it all: floaty rayon dresses, crisp linen pieces, hand-painted stripes, a lace-trimmed white cotton blouse (hello, wardrobe MVP), and patchwork designs that’ll be sure to turn heads at your next event.
It’s playful. It’s pretty. It’s perfect.
I think Something Blue is our most special collection yet – but don’t just take my word for it. Pop one on and let it work its magic.
