This quote by Yves Saint Laurent perfectly sums up the inspiration behind our Marvellous Mavens Collection, which I’m so proud to share with you.
I’ve been working in fashion a long time, and I recently had a pinch-me moment when I realised Maiocchi is turning 20 this year! It feels like only yesterday that I was a young designer with a dream to create wearable frocks that would make all women feel beautiful, but I could never have imagined the career I’ve had so far, and the gorgeous Mavens that have been with me along the way – some from the very beginning.
And it’s you Mavens that have inspired our latest collection, a nod to the journey we’ve been on together, and to the unique beauty you all bring to Maiocchi.
‘Marvellous Mavens’ is our second collaboration with local artist Julie Tomaszewski, and it’s one that fills me with joy because it captures exactly what I’ve loved most about 20 years of designing frocks: the women who wear them!
It all started with a conversation Julie and I had at our last launch event. We were standing back marvelling at the roomful of colourful and fabulous women, all different, and all wearing their Maiocchi frocks from years past and present.
I feel really very lucky to be dressing some of the most fabulous and clever ladies in all the land. You have a lust for colour and fun – and you love fashion but you don’t take yourself too seriously. You know how to have fun with your looks, and you are also a beautiful community of ladies who lift each other up.
This was my ultimate pinch-me moment, because my success and achievements aren’t mine alone – they belong to the entire Maiocchi Maven community.
Since our first collaboration, Bloom, Julie had started doing the most beautiful illustrations of women, and so we hatched a plan together to create a print that celebrates the the best thing about Maiocchi: our unique and marvellous Mavens!
Julie's first stop for inspiration was our Maiocchi Mavens Facebook group. We talked about the women who share their pictures and snippets of their lives with us. I love seeing the way you ladies pull looks together: a colourful cardie, fancy brooches pinned onto a dress, quirky red glasses, a fabulous pair of shoes that have all the mavens talking and comparing notes
And I love hearing all your stories and seeing where you’ve worn your latest Maiocchi frock, or the one you have been wearing for the past 20 years.
Take a look at the stunning print Julie came up with – a fashion fairy tale where the women who wear the dresses are the leading ladies. A celebration of colour and a little bit of fun. Twenty years of fashion and fabulous women. You might even spot someone you know in there!
