There are a lot of things that go into making a Maiocchi dress - prints, colours, fittings, last-minute tweaks… cake. Always cake. But the most important ingredient? Mum.

My mum and I started Maiocchi together over 25 years ago. She was our original production manager (and, let's be honest, probably still is in spirit). She has an eye for detail and is famously fussy about quality - keeping everything stitched together, sometimes quite literally. She was also the resident cake maker - everyone got one for their birthday, and sometimes… just because.

When Oscar was born, Mum stepped into her next role without missing a beat: Nanna. Which meant I got to bring a tiny baby into work, knowing there was always an extra pair of loving hands nearby. It's one of those things I'll never take for granted.

"These days, if you've ever received one of our online orders, chances are it's been packed by her - carefully, thoughtfully, and often to the tune of Roy Orbison."

And even now, after all these years, she's still the person I go to for a second opinion. New designs, new prints, new ideas - Mum sees it all first. And she will tell me honestly if something's not quite right… which is exactly what you want.

This Mother's Day, I've been thinking about how lucky I am - not just to have a mum, but to have built something alongside her. Maiocchi has always been about colour, joy, and creativity… but underneath it all, it's really about connection.
